The Lake Hood Trail runs along the southern bank of the Ashburton River to Lake Hood. It is a wide riverside track suitable for walkers and bikers of beginner skill levels. The track goes for 8km in one direction. Lake Hood has barbeque facilities, toilets and a restaurant.

Conditions

Partial detour Nov 2019 to Dec 2020 to allow for piepline work.

How to get here

The Lake Hood River Trail starts from a carpark on the Tinwald side of the Ashburton River next to State Highway 1.

You can access the carpark off the upstream side of State Highway 1.

The track runs under the SH1 bridge towards the coast.
