Northland's Waipu Coastal Trail extended
Published 1 April 2015
A new walking trail is available for walkers to enjoy on Northland's Bream Bay coast, thanks to an $8,000 grant from the New Zealand Walking Access Commission's Enhanced Access Fund.
The trail, which follows a section of the Bream Bay coastline between Waterman Drive and Ding Bay, is the final section of the longer 6km Waipu Coastal Trail.
Waipu Lions Club Waipu Coastal Trail Project Manager Mike King said construction on the final section of the trail was continuing but it could now be walked by those who were fit and able.
“The most significant sights to see along the new section of the trail are the rocks, being the same type as the Punakaiki rocks in the South Island… the rest of the trail wanders in and out of native bush and onto rocks with stunning sea views.
“The Enhanced Access fund has enabled us to upgrade the more difficult sections of the trail and work will go on as funds and time permit.â€
