First phase of Grovetown Lagoon track completed
Published 7 August 2014
A new track has been built to provide access to Grovetown Lagoon, north of Blenheim, opening up the area's history, culture and birdlife to those keen to explore a fascinating slice of New Zealand.
The track building project was led by Te Whanau Hou Grovetown Lagoon Society and received $10,000 funding from the Commission's Enhanced Access Fund. It was officially opened by Marlborough Mayor Alistair Sowman on 29 June.
Te Whanau Hou Grovetown Lagoon Society Project Coordinator Jenny Keene says the opening of the 750-metre Steam Wharf Track attracted more than a hundred people.
“It was a huge turnout from iwi and the local community. The project is near Blenheim and because it is so handy, many people can come and enjoy it.â€
