A helpful guide for users to familiarise themselves with our maps. The guide includes more information on our maps, layout, navigation, tools, login and GIS data.
Our maps show public access areas; places where the public has a legal right to access land such as coastline, rivers, conservation land, private land, or parks and reserves.
You can view all layers against a variety of detailed basemaps such as the LINZ Topographic basemap, aerial/satellite imagery and multiple simplified, high-speed vector basemaps.
The map layout displays our current maps available to view.
The map navigation section shows users how to navigate the map viewer.
Map tools explains each of the basic and advanced mapping tools available. There are also tips on how to get the most out of each tool.
Our Maps also allows you to login, create, edit and save maps online - to come back to later.
Geospatial (GIS) data forms the backbone of our mapping systems. On this page, users can learn more about map layers, data sources, system changes, accessing our data, and understanding its limitations.
If you have any suggestions or need more help, don’t hesitate to leave your feedback here.
