Two new staff join Commission

Two new staff have joined the Commission in Wellington. Danica Torres is the Commission’s GIS Analyst and Stephen Day is the Communications Advisor.
Danica Torres previously she worked as a deputy registrar at the Ministry of Justice processing attachment orders for civil cases, after graduating from Victoria University with a degree in Geography.
After three weeks at the Commission, she says the work is interesting. She has been surprised by how many Overseas Investment Office cases and access disputes there are in New Zealand.
“Today I got a call about a paper road – something I didn’t think about a lot before,” she says.
Danica grew up in the Philippines and is trilingual, speaking Tagalog and a Filipino dialect, Visaya, as well as English.
Stephen has joined the Commission’s communications team. He previously worked in communications roles for the Law Commission and several unions including the Tertiary Education Union and the financial workers’ union.
He is a keen runner and has represented New Zealand at the World Mountain Running Championships.
“I’ve spent a lot of time running up and down New Zealand tracks. Now I’m excited about the chance promote other people’s access to similar trails,” he says.
