Hundreds enjoy Both Sides of the Fence website

Children at primary and intermediate schools across New Zealand can now learn about responsible behaviour in the outdoors on the new Both Sides of the Fence education website.

Online at bothsidesofthefence.org.nz, the curriculum-aligned learning environment introduces children to rural life and responsible access through the use of child-friendly characters such as Kush the dog, Barry the farmer and Kate the girl guide.

The New Zealand Walking Access Commission launched the website at Northland School in Wellington last month and it has since been visited by hundreds of pupils and teachers across the country. Children at the launch event walked media and representatives from landholder and outdoor recreational groups through the 'Explore' section of the website, showing them their favourite animated scenarios and characters.

The scenarios in the 'Explore' section look at topics including unformed legal roads, dogs in a rural setting, biosecurity risks, fires, and important cultural considerations when accessing MÄ
