Green Hut Track Group wins Outdoor Access Champion Award

The Green Hut Track Group received an Outdoor Access Champion Award last week. The award recognises the Trust's achievements in enhancing public access and offering new opportunities for New Zealanders to experience our great outdoors.

Walking Access Commission board member Hilary Allison presented the award at a ceremony in Dunedin.

The awards are an annual event organised by the New Zealand Walking Access Commission. Commission Communications Manager Asher Wilson-Goldman says they celebrate the people and community groups around the country who are developing trails and making it easier for people to experience the outdoors.

The Green Hut Track Group have been volunteering for 20 years.

They are a fantastic volunteer group working with everyone in the environmental and recreation sector in Dunedin. They work incredibly hard to maintain many kilometres of walking tracks and hold the right relationship agreements and health and safety standards.

Last year they carried out more than 2500 hours of track maintenance.

The Green Hut Track Group works closely with both Wenita and City Forests and with the Dunedin City Council and the Department of Conservation, which nominated them for the award.
