Find My Adventure nominated for geospatial award
Published 26 September 2019
Find My Adventure has been named as one of three finalists in the People and Community category of the NZ Spatial Excellence Awards. The awards gala function is on 17 October at Te Papa.
The New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards (NZSEA) celebrate outstanding examples of innovation and excellence in the geospatial community each year.
The People and Community Award recognises products or projects that make a difference to national, regional or local issues and affect communities via ‘grass roots’ initiatives, and/or educational programs, services or tools that permit the widespread adoption, use, understanding and access to spatially enabled products or services.
Walking Access Commission Chief Executive Ric Cullinane says the Commission is honoured to be named as a finalist.
"For a long time our Walking Access Mapping System (WAMS) has been our flagship geospatial service. Indeed, the recently completed Report on the Review of the Walking Access Act 2008 noted resounding support from people for WAMS. It’s great that WAMS's little sister, Find My Adventure is getting recognition now too."
Cullinane says Find My Adventure a unique free public collaboration that allows track-controlling authorities to share their track maps with the community on a high-quality geospatial platform.
"Find My Adventure is about sharing maps and data to help people all over New Zealand get into the outdoors," says Cullinane.
