Commission mourns board member

The Board and staff of the New Zealand Walking Access Commission offer their sincere condolences to the family of Board member John Aspinall, following his untimely death on Friday 4 November 2011.

Mr Aspinall served on the Commission's Board since its establishment in 2008, making significant contributions to key Commisson projects including the Outdoor Access Code and Walking Access Mapping System. He also played an important role in the establishment of the Commission, serving on the Walking Access Consultation Panel and the Walking Access Advisory Board.

Commission Chief Executive Mark Neeson said Mr Aspinall was a renowned High Country farmer and a champion of public-access, voluntarily allowing tens of thousands of people to access Mt Aspiring Station every year to enjoy a beautiful slice of New Zealand's outdoors.

“John was a top bloke, extremely hard working, and a great personality. Our thoughts and sympathy are with John's family at this difficult time.â€
