Collaboration with councils achieves results

In this column New Zealand Walking Access Commission Chief Executive Mark Neeson discusses the need to work together with territorial authorities to achieve enduring access to the outdoors.

Over the first five years of the New Zealand Walking Access Commission's existence its board, staff and regional field advisors have met with more than half of the territorial authorities in New Zealand.

These meetings have been an opportunity for the Commission to understand the diverse challenges they face and to share knowledge about best practice management of access problems, including managing unformed legal roads.
